About the event

Two acclaimed Chicago dance organizations are collaborating on a performance for the first time.

The renowned Chicago Movement Collective, and the venerable Winifred Haun & Dancers will present the first annual PERSISTENT SPRING: a showcase of Chicago dance artists, on May 23 & 24 at the Ruth Page Center in Chicago.

Persistent Spring will feature dances created by prestigious Chicago area choreographers, including Shannon Alvis, Sarita Smith Childs, Imani English, Crystal Gurrola, Winifred Haun, Mandy Milligan, and Regina Perry-Carr. The showcase will also feature works created by program participants.

The purpose of Persistent Spring is to showcase the pre-professional/early career dance artists from the two organizations’ educational programs. WH&D’s 3rd Coast Contemporary Dance program launched in the fall of 2023. CMC’s Claire Bataille Legacy Scholarship program began in the fall of 2020. Both programs offer affordable, professional training to qualified, experienced dancers ages 17-26.

CMC and WH&D have been collaborating to offer classes and workshops to young dance artists, established professional dancers, and the greater Chicago area dance community since March of 2021.

Winifred Haun & Dancers is an artist-led dance organization that focuses on the creation of original, innovative dance works, both in, for, and about local, national, and international communities. Persistent Spring continues the Company’s mission to produce dance events that illuminate and elevate diverse artists, audiences, and global themes. This small, but scrappy dance company has been producing new works and dance events for over 25 seasons, and continues to expand its programming and community support by continuing to present relevant and timely dance projects.

Chicago Movement Collective was founded in September 2020 to provide a home for the Chicago dance community’s incredible teaching artists, musicians, and soon-to-be professional performing artists. The Chicago dance community is famously supportive and this collective is a reflection of that love and care. No matter one’s goals in dance, commercial, concert, or otherwise, CMC is committed to helping the entire Chicago dance community get there.
